good start to the list pimpin, but, start researching all your supporting mods for the build. map sensors, waste gates and stuff. you can get good kits, but imo the build can be alot more balanced when pieced together, with some good guidance when questions arise, and they will. I had tons of questions and still do.
Word. I'm just not sure where to start. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a ZC, so the motor won't be in the car while it's being built. That's sort of why I'm thinking about all the parts at once. I admit, I'll probably buy a knockoff turbo kit to start and upgrade the parts one at a time when I can find a deal. I'm just not going to cheap out building the motor itself because of the eventual boosting. I'll get ARP studs and bolts for the block, probably Eagle rods. Thinking about Roller-Wave pistons, although they're $500+. I'm not going to spend that much more for the longblock itself lol

you should spend the extra dime on the block and as for the turbo kit. please don't cheap out, things can go wrong with cheap kits that will put holes in you're block in short order. i mean you dont have to spend a ton to get quality, ya just gotta be patient and keep doing what your doing, research. it may take time, but trust me itll be worth every penny and the time put into it.

I'd rather buy good quality used stuff and have it rebuilt than spend, what, $4800 on a GReddy set? That seems excessive when knockoff stuff is well under a grand. I do have time on my side, the stock motor is running fine at 194k miles still, so I can wait.

Anybody selling a D series turbo manifold and snail cheap??? =)

Also: I need recommendations for where to pick up the ZC. TigerJapanese in Canada has them for $791 + $162 shipping, HMotorsonline it's $650 although I don't know what the shipping is. Motor experiences? Customer service experiences? A cheaper price elsewhere?

For that price or maybe a bit more you cuold go B series... No point in doing that... I say watch Craigslist for a good D or even B series... And pick one up when the time is right... I got my b18b1 with AC stuff, Alt, Starter, Dizzy, Ecu, and trans for 740.00

oohh k, its your build pimp. but, some where along the line it will become apparent why the knock-offs are less than 1000.00 and why the greddy kit is worth the money. trust me

No point in a B series? I'm not sure what you're saying exactly. I guess I'm a little nervous about an OBD1 conversion. This is my first engine swap and I don't want to goon myself with electrical stuff, hence the OBD0 ZC swap. I'm looking for bang-for-the-buck, certainly.

And that's a great price, btw. I'd have a b18b1 in my car if I could get that kind of deal too lol

Pulling the trigger on the mini-me swap. Found a used GReddy d-series turbo kit for $650 on craigslist. Gonna order Nippon Racing turbo pistons, Eagle rods, and an ACL race bearing kit. Head details to come later.

When doing this swap, which Helms should i have on hand? The 91 for the d16a6, or the 92-95 for the d16z6?

Complete D16Z6 head, valve cover, VTEC solenoid and everything for $150, in working condition, picking it up tomorrow. Guy two hours from here is selling me the GReddy turbo kit for $650 on Monday. What a productive day. Ordered up an adjustable cam gear too. =)

Parts!

The pile:

Had to look close to make sure it was a GReddy lol

My free chipped P28.

Shiny E-manage, ooooh... =)

Well, thanks to the generosity of Craigslist people, I have to seriously debate doing the OBD1 conversion sooner rather than later. The first guy gave me the intake manifold with the head, and the guy I got the turbo bits from gave me a chipped Z6 ecu. All I think I need now is a Z6 distributor, a conversion wiring harness and another o2 sensor.

Sucked it up and bought the conversion wiring harness, comes with the 4 wire o2 sensor conversion plug, vtec wiring, knock sensor plug, iab plug etc etc. Supposed to be complete. Now I just need a Z6 distributor.
