This. I had this problem with my shifter, it turns out the shift bushings which connect the shifter to the linkage were worn. I replaced those and tightened up the shifter to the linkage.. problem solved.

Also, jump the service connector and see if there are any codes which could point you in the right direction. It could be something as simple as swapping two plugs. But I'm with @HeX, we need more info.

Yeah, I've heard a few stories where the filter had too-much oil right out of the box. Personally I have a K&N oiled filter and it's been great for me. But yeah, any oiled air filter is subject to problems if too much oil, not K&N specially.
