yeah..with the right education everyone may prosper...but you say it is easier for minorities cause of aid. picture a suburban high school and then pictures an inner city high school. who do you think will have a higher chance of going to college.

education is publicly funded right (at least before college) so if something is federally and publicly funded then why dont all schools have the same caliber teachers, resourcers, supplies, staff, locations, etc, etc.

how come schools in inner city neighborhoods are shitty?

MAybe because a mojority of the families in that neighborhood might live off of welfare and they don't pump money back into the city. Insted of cleaning up a building kids graffitti (sp) buildings. Insted of working at local buisnesses people are sellign drugs. No one wants to live like trash especially if you start to get a little bit of money. If more people in the ghettos gave a damn about their neighborhood then it wouldn't be the ghetto it would just be another neighborhood. oh and fyi white people live in the inner city too.

Colleges do give special treatment to minorities. My step brother got a free ride to college because he is hispanic. Last I checked it took a non minority to get a 25 to get into Oklahoma university and a minority a 21. Everyone gets treated well or poorly for the way they look, their race, or what family they are in. People just need to understand that racism isn't what it used to be. Things are pretty much equal now adays.

Maybe those groups where ended because they didn't find anyone to suport them. You can't just rely on government funding to support a group. If you want something you have to raise money for it not rely on someone else like a government.

my south african cousins. Great at playing tennis. Birmingham alabama gave them both FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIPS including AIRFARE and everything to come to college using south african high school credits.

Yet here, i cant even use credits from a COLLEGE in CONCORD, CA to get into a California State University, so i had to piss away the last 2 1/2 years of my life at the f**kin community college doing all the same s**t i already did over again becuase www.heald.edu sucks a fat one.

if you hold an entire group of people down for decades....dont expect them to just jump right back up and be next to you in an economic perspective. its your responsibility to help them up to your level..and from there let it be free for all.

Problem is, a lot(not all, of course) of minorities would rather just hang onto that race card for the free ride that goes along with it. Sure, they were oppressed in history, but there comes a time when they need to stop blaming others for their problems, and evaluate their own culture in prospering.

With the right education(which is equal opportunity to ALL, and even easier for minorities in regards to student aid in many cases), a person, no matter the race may prosper.

And sure, there's still racism throughout the country(world at that), but instead of using it as some kind of excuse, why not overcome it and prove others wrong?

i would have to disagree with you on this one. i dont think a lot of minorities hang on to the race card for the benefits. there really isnt that many benefits anyways for being minority. i didnt get no scholarships to MICHIGAN for being Latino. Noone gave me an A in a course cause i am Latino. Its hard for minorities to just out and prosper when everything is designed to make it hard for them to do so. how many universities do you paying attention to minority students.

Michigan for example has not been able to offer a permanent job to a Latino Coordinator position for the past 5 yrs. they cut almost all funding for Native American groups and staff positions. they fired a LGBTA staff member because of budget cuts. interesting how all these cuts are made to minority positons and groups.

think of it this way....if you f**k someone over...chances are youll have to make up for it right..after youve made up for it its all cool you dont owe them anything.

if you hold someone down while the rest of the world progresses...then you must help them back up. once you have done that then youll be clear of debt.

It's not like you're going to get free milk and cookies by using the race card (since you said there are no benefits from using it). Those aren't the benefits we're talking about. It's not our fault that you didn't get those scholarships. Did you apply for any? Just because theyr'e out there doesn't mean YOU will get it. But some other Latino person might have.

Scholarships aren't just for people who want to better themselves. They're for people who have been trying to better themselves... and the best out of that group.

I don't remember seeing any "white trash" scholarship though. I've seen lots of whites who live in poverty in the US too.

whos making generalizations now? MY ANCESTORS didnt do any of that, my ancestors before the 1600s are dutch, and after the 1600s are south african. My parents are south african, and immigrated here in 1979. I was born right here in the US in 1984. My folks were RESIDENT ALIENS until the late 90s, when they finally got their us citizenship. You dont see us driving around repping the south african flag, you dont see a south african flag hanging outside of our house, and you sure as hell wont ever hear us say that our country is better than america, because if it was, we would still be there.

Or say that you did something great and good (like your parents died and you kept your brothers and sisters alive and together, etc.. outstanding circumstances). public education is still free in the inner city. the choice to try and excel in school still remains the decision of the student. how are inner city kids not given the same chances at public education than any other area of the nation?

I grew up in the inner city here (highest crime rate city of entire New York state now) and it's bad. It's really bad...

I moved out when I was 6 and a half and I don't miss it one bit...

it is statisically evident that whites are "better off" than most minorities, due to the networks they have and the opportunities they are granted. there is a reason minorities are offered scholarships brotha.

for example, how many whites do you see in harvard? many, i am sure. now, how many blacks do you see in harvard? for whatever reason, they are outnumbered, so society gives them a hand up (not a hand out) to hopefully make a better life for themselves.

if you had ever taken a sociology class, or study this field you will see more and more reasons why minorities end up staying in the same class they were born in. it is true that at times, minorities are granted privleges that they do not appreciate or did not work exactly as hard as their majority counterparts but why aren't you guys flaming the jews in that case?

jews receive a handout from all sides, and often they are the ones who run the government behind the scenes. their situations drag us to war, force us to be involved, and give them nothing but a card to play on why they deserve to have all sorts of segregated resources for their race. is that not unfair?

i am latino, and i have not received a hand up in anyway or form. i pay for my own school, work my ass off to pay all my bills, and sell HIDs on the side in order to mod my car. my parents used to drive/commute with me almost an hour from my home in order to keep me in a good elementary/junior high school, and there was nothing but obstacles for students from outside the neighborhood, there was no sort of "affirmative action" so i worked my ass off and kept my nose out of trouble...knowing that i'd be kicked out at the first opportunity, i never played my race card. heck, i wish i was eligible for some sort of scholarship...

but on another note, there are bad/unworthy people of every race, i hope you guys realize this and do not isolate the bottom of the bucket and moan about how they get everything handed to them...most of these people will never elevate beyond their project building. either they come to the conclusion that they aren't going anywhere in life, or they die struggling. it is less than 50% that get to push beyond those glass ceilings to make a life for themselves.

and if you are a minority, who is so far successful in your life, here's a fist pump for you!!
