It depends on the technique used to swipe I think lol. I noticed that swiping above the home button generally sucks. But swiping from the left or right it helps quite a bit. The issue is that half the time I don't think about it and I swipe right in the middle and fail :roll: Gotta love...

I've had similar issues but it was with a faulty o2 sensor giving a bad reading. Check your o2 sensors. When the car is cold, it runs open loop, meaning it's strictly using the computer for air/fuel and not the o2 sensors. Once the car is warmed up it will use them.

Why not just get a BOV and IC? You can source those on eBay for pretty cheap. You can get crappy IC piping, but don't cheap out on the BOV. Running low boost, yes there is a greater chance that you'll be safe, but IMO -- get one. If you have a boost surge say goodbye to your turbo and maybe...

White smoke generally indicates a head gasket or cracked head/block issue, black smoke is fuel related. Judging by how you mentioned the VC isn't all the way down, I'd say start there and get new VC screws.
