Stock motor? P28 ODB1 ECU. But get it chipped and professionally tuned. Otherwise it won't last long.

Transmission won't work with what you want to do. Transmission is F series, motor is K series. Not compatible at all. K-series swaps aren't the cheapest, but the price has come down quite a bit for them. Still, expect to spend ~$2-3k or so on a full K swap after all is said and done, plus K-Pro...

Depends on your budget and power goal. What are they? Generally, LS/Vtec will get you better power, but won't be as reliable as a standalone LS. But if you get a very good tune, and as long as you're not trying for a s**t load of power, you shouldn't need to worry.

I'm surprised it let you into first gear going that quick. Sounds like a syncrho issue to me as well. Likely time for a transmission rebuild. I strongly recommend against even attempting first gear unless you're at crawling speeds (< 10mph)

Pulsing brakes is a sign of ABS working. That's what ABS does. It actually prevents the brakes from locking up. It does feel weird though.
